Social Activism for Women donates relief items to victims of Akosombo Dam spillage

A group dedicated to advocating for the most vulnerable in the society, particularly women and children , Social Activism for Women (S.A.W) has donated relief items to victims of Akosombo Dam spillage at Mepe in the Volta Region.

The donation, which was done on Sunday, November 5,2023 was to support the victims and to bring smiles on their faces following the disaster.

Items donated included clothes, shoes, bags and toiletries.

Speaking in an interview, AN Executive Member of the Group who is also a Media Personality, Afia Kwarteng Asamani (Authentic Mama), made it known that the items were given to the group by individuals who were touched by the story of the victims.

“These donations came from generous Ghanaians who were moved by the group’s social media campaign,” she said.

The items were received by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah who has been on his feet receiving all persons who have visited Mepe following the disaster.

He thanked the Group for the kind gesture and also called on the Volta River Authority (VRA) to act swiftly in addressing the challenges of the Akosombo Dam victims.

“I urge the government to incorporate compensation plans in the upcoming budget to be presented in Parliament,” he said.

Another Member of S.A.W, Nana Adwoa Owiredua Owusu, who also observed the impact of the disaster on the education of the students at Mepe also called for swift intervention so that the lives of affected students will go back to normalcy.

For her part, Lily Afia Oforiwaah Ofori assured that she remains committed to assisting the women and children and the vulnerable who face challenges in the society.

Yaba Sarfo, who is also a Media Personality also reaffirmed her commitment in pushing the agenda of the Group.

Meanwhile, the Queenmother of Battor, Mama Asieku IV also extended appreciation to all who have extended help to the victims since the disaster occurred.
