“We won't charge unapproved fees” – CHASS assures Akufo-Addo

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), has  assured  President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo that  its members will not charge unapproved fees from students.

The President has asked headmasters and headmistress of Senior High Schools not to charge unapproved or illegal fees, or charge fees already exempted under the Free SHS policy.

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Saturday, 17th February, 2018, when he attended the 60th anniversary celebration of Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary, in Koforidua, in the Eastern Region.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, National Secretary for CHASS, Rev. Abraham Osei Donkor, mentioned that the association has received the President’s caution in good faith and will ensure that its members abide by the order.

According to him, only first year students have been placed on the government’s flagship free SHS programme.

He, however added that when students in second and third years fail to pay their school fees and are sacked, their parents tend to attack the school authorities wrongfully due to the notion of “free SHS.

“CHASS will not charge fees which have  been absorbedunder the Free SHS policy,” he added.
