New school uniform won’t solve problems in education sector – Kwesi Pratt

 

Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has taken a swipe at the Ghana Education Service (GES) for  introducing  new uniforms for Junior High School (JHS) students.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) last Thursday announced the introduction of a new school uniform for Junior High School (JHS) students.

Students are expected to start wearing the new school uniform from 2019 – 2020 academic year.

The Director-General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa made this known at a press conference in Accra Thursday morning.

But speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr said a change in school uniforms among Junior High School (JHS) students in the country below the belt.

According to the social commentator, the introduction of a new school uniform is not part of the issues in Ghana’s education sector which need to be addressed.

“Unless you do not know the problems in the educational sector, there are a lot of schools in Ghana where four students share one textbook, if you change uniforms in a sector where students lack textsbooks and furniture then what is the value?,” he fumed.

According to Kwasi Pratt, there is evidence to the fact that students lie on their tummies to write in some classrooms across Ghana, and the fact that government is suggesting that these lie on the floor to write with the new school uniforms in appalling,
