One person has been reportedly shot dead at Kariama, a suburb of Bawku in the Upper East region following gunshots in the area on Tuesday.
The event according to sources occurred between 11 and 12 midnight.
The deceased is yet to be identified but is believed to be a man in his mid-twenties.
The Bawku Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Yao Tettegah said although rumours were rife that the attack was linked to an ethnic conflict, the police were treating the case purely as a criminal matter.
He said investigations have started and that security in the area has been beefed up. He further noted that the situation had been brought under control.
