GRA, Atinka FM embark on Community Tax Compliance campaign

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in partnership with Atinka Media Village and Citizen Media Network has started its Voluntary Tax Education campaign.

The campaign is aimed at educating the general public on the need to pay taxes voluntarily following the introduction of Tax Identification Number (TIN)

The GRA has introduced Tax Identification Number (TIN), which makes it impossible for anyone to clear goods at the port, register land at the Lands Commission; obtain a tax clearance certificate from the GRA or even open a bank account without the TIN registration.

One cannot register a company at the Registrar General’s Department nor register a vehicle at the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA) without a TIN number.
Additionally, persons without TIN numbers cannot obtain payment for jobs done for government or bid for a contract in any government agency.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Public Affairs Director at the Ghana Revenue Authority, Mr. Kwasi Bobie Ansah, explained that the GRA has realized that the general public needs more education on the TIN hence the agenda.

He called on the general public to participate in the campaign by bringing all questions surrounding general tax system as well as TIN.

The campaign team on Wednesday stormed Abbosey Okai to educate traders and spare parts dealers on the need to acquire a tax identification number and other tax related issues.

Hundreds of spare parts dealers took the opportunity to register for their TIN numbers.
