Dec 7: Greater Accra , Central regions to determine winner – Ben Ephson

Pollster, Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson, says the Greater Accra and Central Regions will determine the outcome of the general elections in December 2020.
Ghana heads to the poll on 7th December 2020 and Ghanaian journalist and pollster, Ben Ephson is noted for predicting results of the elections before they are held.
Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Ghanaian journalist and pollster Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson says the results from the two regions will determine whether or not the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) will retain power or the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) will be brought back into power.
He explained that as at day 35 of the 2020 new voter registration exercise conducted in the various regions , the Greater Accra had increased by 402, 765 registered voters, while Central Region had increased by over 142, 000 registered voters.
Comparing the impending 2020 polls to the previous elections on previous elections since 1992, Ghanaian journalist and pollster Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson recounted that for a presidential candidate of any political party to emerge as winner of the election, he had to win in the ‘swing regions’ which were the Western, Central, or Greater.
Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson explained that these swing regions are non-partisan regions who either vote or otherwise based on the performance of the government.
“On the average, it is estimated that over a million people come to Accra everyday and go. This year they had 420,000 more than 2016 because a lot of people were stuck in Accra due to the coronavirus and subsequently the lockdown. Accra and Central Region captures the mood of the non partisan regions,” he said.
