Bugri Naabu booted out; Samba takes over

Daniel Bugri Naabu, the powerful Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), has been booted out of office.

He polled 116 votes while his main contender, Mohammed Samba, garnered 312 votes in Saturday’s  Regional Delegates Conference at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

AlhajiAbdulai Hindu secured 25 votes; Alhaji Inusa Dagomba had 9 votes while Alhaji Mugisu Sibaya had no votes.

There was drama prior to voting after Bugri Naabu towed his mangled accident car to the voting grounds.
Bugri Naabu ’s critics said the move was intended to court sympathy votes in Saturday’s election.

The incumbent chairman, however, dismissed the claims, saying he just wanted to prove to people that the accident was real and not stage-managed.

The incumbent NPP chairman was involved in an accident on the Damongo-Sawla road two days ago. Reports suggested that his vehicle somersaulted multiple times, putting his life in danger.  He was allegedly airlifted to Accra for treatment.
