$1 m per constituency: Residents blast MCE for using money for 'public toilets' (Audio)

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atebubu / Amantin in the Brong Ahafo Region, Edward Owusu, has been condemned by residents of the area for using almost half of the one million per constituency allocation to construct chains of public toilets in the community.

Addressing residents during a Townhall meeting Saturday at Amantin, the MCE revealed that government had released Atebubu / Amantin constituency’s share of one million dollars and that about CHC400, 000 out of the money is being used to construct toilets (12- seater WC) in several communities within the constituency.

He added that all the toilet projects are 70% complete and that the Akufo-Addo government was honouring its campaign promises.

However, many residents have kicked against the move, saying it’s a total waste of resources. They argued that they  already have enough toilets in the area and that the money could have been used for the construction of roads and provision of potable water.

The angry residents berated the MCE for not consulting them to identify their urgent needs.

According to them, the Municipality lacks potable water, good roads, hospital ambulance, proper school infrastructure among others and that it was inappropriate for the MCE to prioritize public toilets over these important needs.
