Western Togoland crusaders imposing “Independent Volta” idea on others – Dep. Min

Deputy Minister for the Newly created Oti Region, Maxwell Blagodzi, says the idea of an Independent Volta region is the sole idea of a few crusaders who are trying to impose the concept on the whole of Oti and Volta Regions.
According to the Minister, the campaign which has brought about some disturbance in the area is unfortunate.
The Chairman of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), Papavi Hogbedetor and eight others championing the independence of the Volta Region were on Sunday evening picked up by a combined team of armed police and military personnel.
The 9 were to Accra where they have been detained in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Members of the group have been arrested for the second time in 2019. Some members were arrested in February 23, while embarking on a health walk. They were, however, released on bail after some time.
Speaking to Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka AM Drive, Deputy Minister for the Newly created Oti Region, Maxwell Blagodzi stated that the regional security council of both regions are working assiduously with government to ensure that this agenda is truncated.
Meanwhile, lawyers of the group are reportedly in Accra working to secure bail for all nine suspects who are yet to be charged.
Crusaders of the group have been calling for the declaration of Western Togoland as an Independent Country for sometime now.
The land which is perceived as stretching from Kulungugu in the Upper East Region to Keta in the Southern coast by the Atlantic ocean.
