“We will debate SONA in the media” – ABA Fuseini justifies walk-out

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region and Ranking  Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications, ABA Fuseini, says the Minority will debate the State of the Nation Address in the media.
The debate on the President’s State of The Nation Address commenced on the floor of Parliament on Monday 24th February 2020.
The Members of Parliament on the Minority side walked out of Parliament even before the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo delivered the State of The Nation Address.
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presented the State of the Nation’s Address on the floor of Parliament Thursday, February 20, 2020.
The address entailed the current state of the nation is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
The Minority who still seem unsatisfied with the President’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address recused themselves from the debate.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, ABA Fuseini, stated that the Minority will rather debate the State of the Nation Address in the media rather than debate it on the floor of Parliament.
He refuted claims that the Minority totally left Parliament to attend to private businesses after refusing to participate in the debate.
According to him, they left to participate in other Parliamentary work and that the State of the Nation Address is not a priority.
“We left to participate in the amendment of bills, financial measures and other business of the house. First and foremost the State of the Nation address is the only business of the house. We walked out and in consonance with the decision to walkout, we are only logically not participating, we are however not debating on the floor of Parliament. We are abstaining from the debate and we will debate in the media. There are a lot of avenues of conducting debates,” he added.
