One of the Spokesperson for the legal team of John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 election Petition, Baba Jamal, says the verdict of the Supreme Court did not come as a surprise to the party.

The Supreme Court y on Thursday 4th March 2021, ruled that the Electoral Commission (EC’s) declaration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December 7, 2020 presidential election is in order.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) declared the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, winner of the 2020 Presidential elections on 9th December 2020.

The declaration was contested in court by the NDC, who argued that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, did not win the election 2020 as declared by the EC.

The Supreme Court, however, in a unanimous decision dismissed the election petition brought before it by Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama.

Presenting the verdict, Chief Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah, who led the seven-member panel, said the petitioner has not produced any evidence to rebut the presumptions created by the publication of CI 135.

“The petitioner has not produced any evidence to rebut the presumptions created by the publication of CI 135. We are therefore of no reason to order a rerun. We accordingly dismiss the petition,” the Chief Justice said in the judgment.

Reacting to the ruling on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Lawyer Baba Jamal noted that the Court has ruled and the NDC as a party has accepted the ruling.

Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama, says he disagrees with the ruling of the 2020 election petition.

He also lauded his legal team and his witnesses in the 2020 election petition.

Former President John Dramani Mahama described his lead counsel,  Tsatsu Tsikata as a colossus of a legal mind.

According to him, although they may not have been successful, their hard work will not go unheralded.

“We achieved an impressive showing in the last election, despite the obsence abuse of incumbency, we can be produced we did our best”, he told the media at a press briefing after the ruling.
