Video: Aseidu Nketia justifies Minority's boycott of #SONA2020

The General Secretary  of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has justified his party’s decision to boycott Thursday’s State of the Nation Address  delivered by the President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The Minority in Parliament staged a walkout when the President was about to address the nation.
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Thursday presented the state of the Nation’s address on the floor of Parliament tomorrow Thursday, February 20, 2020.
The address which entails the current state of the nation is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
The minority in Parliament left the house amidst chants even before the President had the President had the opportunity to address the nation.
Justifying the action of the Minority, General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, explained that New Patriotic Party (NDC) practices a type of democracy that infringes on the right of persons to speak.
“I believe that they were only exercising one of the remaining rights, that is the right not to participate in what you disagree with,” he said.
Asked if the Minority could not have expressed their displeasure in any other way other than a boycott, Aseidu Nketia mentioned that if the avenue through their voice ought to be heard is being shut then a boycott is a step in the right direction.
According to him, Ghana’s national anthem employs Ghanaians to resist the oppressors rule of which a boycott is not an exemption.
He noted added that the Party is in support of the action the Members of Parliament took since it is another powerful way of communicating the concerns of the NDC and by extension Ghanaians to the fact that Ghana’s democracy is gradually under attack
