Use all means to suppress Western Togoland activists – Expert

Programme Director of the Institute for Peace and Governance, Justin Bayor, has asked the government to use all means to suppress the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), a secessionist group.

The Secessionist group in the Volta Region last Friday blocked major entry points into the Region as part of measures to push the government to give them their sovereignty.

The group particularly blocked roads in Sogakope and Mepe, disrupting the activities of residents and motorists who ply that route.

The group also attacked a police station and made away with weapons from their armoury.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Justin Bayor, says the act by the group poses a big threat to the survival of the power and supremacy of the nation.

He called on the government to use all the necessary means to ensure that the activities of the group are brought to a halt.

“Government shouldn’t take the activities of the group lightly, it’s a threat to the survival of the authority of the nation and so first of all, the nation should use its power and might to deal with the issue. It’s very important”, he added.

30 young men believed to be part of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), a secessionist group, were been airlifted to Accra by the national security.

Some members of the group agitating for the restoration of the Western Togoland as an independent state from Ghana arrested for Friday morning disturbances have been transported to Accra.

They were received at the Airforce base in Accra for onward transport to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters of the Ghana Police.

Some of the exhibits picked up from them were flags which had inscriptions of the separatist group, Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) on them.
