Upper West: Youth raise funds to purchase ambulances for hospitals

A campaign that seeks to raise funds to acquire ambulances for the Upper West Regional Hospital has been launched by a youth group in the region.

Dubbed, “get Ambulance for Upper West”, the campaign, which was launched by Upper West Youth Connect aims at soliciting for funds to purchase ambulances to facilitate quality health service delivery in the region.

Background

Ambulance services in the Upper West region have recently become more of a mirage than reality.

Reports, have indicated that accessing ambulance service has become a very difficult task, due to the limited number available.

In the Upper West Region, it is difficult to have access to it, and even those who have access  do not get it on time.

It is on this back drop that the Youth group resolved to raise funds to acquire an ambulance for the Upper West Regional Hospital, which serves as a referral center for the other health facilities in the region.

Launching the campaign, an Executive Member of the group, Mr. Awudu Issahaku  stated that the group came to a consensus to embark on such journey after realising the trauma patients go through due to lack of ambulances.

Also, he was of the belief that some of the deaths could have been averted if there was a strong ambulance to send patients to referral centers such as Tamale, Kumasi and Accra respectively.

Mr. Issahaku also noted that, the group have done their checks which revealed that an ambulance will cost them an amount of GH₡200, 000.00 and they have given themselves three months to raise the amount with the support of the good people of the region.

“We have given ourselves three months to raise this amount; we should be able to get exactly the amount. People have started contributing and we have currently received over GH₡3, 000.00” he said.

Mr. Issahaku said that the contributions are coming through a mobile money number but was quick to add that they are set to outdoor this initiative in Accra and will create an account which will be manned by trustees after the outdooring ceremony.

“The group therefore, is appealing to all the good people of the region to put in their bids in getting this initiative realised and save the region,” he added.
