Unemployed nurses and midwives threaten another demonstration in Tamale

Unemployed graduate nurses and midwives have threatened to embark on a demonstration against the government in Tamale in the Northern Region come January, 28, 2020.
The yet-to-be employed graduate nurses and midwives will demonstrate against the government for failing to employ them with the excuse of not being financially stable to pay them.
Prior to the demonstration, the unemployed graduate nurses and midwives are beginning a series of street protests from Tamale and then later to other regions.
As sighted on Graphic Online, the Leader of the Group, Sugri Abdul-Rafiq in an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, said government has reneged on all promises offered them since they started engaging with officials on how to be able to get the financial clearance for employment.Despite having series of engagements with the Ministry of Health, as well as President Nana Adddo Danquah Akufo Addo over the delay in their employment, he said their requests have not been given the maximum attention needed.Sugri Abdul-Rafiq explained that apart from the 2016 batch of graduates who were employed, all others, including some who completed their education in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 are still pending clearance for employment.
“The Ministry of Health and other government officials are telling Ghanaians a different story, for example they have come out to say that it is this government that has employed nurses since 2012 and most Ghanaians believe that but in actual fact it is not true. The only batch this government has employed is the 2016 year batch,” he fumed. He added that,”Coming out with this demonstration, we are going to make sure that we elaborate on all the points that are necessary to let the good people of Ghana know that the information the government is giving them is not true,” he stated.
