The Tobinco Group of Companies has donated 17, 500 pieces of Omal Face masks and 1,200 bottles of Omal hand sanitizers to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) ahead of the December 7, 2020 elections.
The PPEs, which were presented by two companies under the Group, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited and Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre are meant to help journalists protect themselves while covering the election.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin I, the Group Financial Controller, Mr Daniel Gyapanin noted that journalists play a critical role in the country and that it was important to ensure their safety as they cover the upcoming election.
He urged the leadership of the various media houses to distribute the PPEs amongst journalists and as well urged journalists to put them to good use and protect themselves from COVID-19.
The GJA Executives who received the items also thanked the Tobinco Group of Companies for the gesture.
In an interview with Atinka, the Vice President of GJA, Mrs Linda Asante Adjei urged journalists to be conscious of their security while reporting the election.
She also expressed hope that all journalists will take caution and protect themselves when covering the election.
“You need to live to tell the story and so be conscious of your security, ” she said.
For his part, the Deputy Managing Director, in charge of Marketing at Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Pharm Christopher Mensah also cautioned journalists to ensure they protect themselves from contracting the disease.
“The doctors have predicted there could be a hike in the cases as a result of the election and therefore we must ensure that we all protect ourselves so that after the election, the numbers will not increase,” he said.
