Ghana now in competent hands – Akufo Addo

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo, says the true state of the Nation Address is that Ghana is in good health and competent hands.
President Akufo Addo was delivering the fourth State of the Nations Address in Parliament.
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presented the State of the Nation’s Address on the floor of Parliament today Thursday, February 20, 2020.
The address which entailed the current state of the nation is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
Akufo Addo touched on pressing issues in the various sectors of his government such as security, education, economy, health among others.
On education, Akufo-Addo announced that over 67,000 teachers have been employed as part of govt’s effort to improve the education sector.
“We need a happy and content group of teachers to ensure our children are educated properly in a safe environment. We have restored the trainee teacher allowances, employed 67,000 teachers, paid tier 2 funds and cleared 92% of the legacy arrears employed 67,000 teachers, paid tier 2 funds and cleared 92% of the legacy arrears,” he said.
Touching on the recent galamsey menace, Akufo-Addo stated that when the NPP came into office, galamsey activities were rampant across the country.
He stated that the previous NDC government had given up on the fight against galamsey which they (NPP) deemed intolerable.
“If evidence of corruption is found, no one will be spared regardless of their position or political affiliation. No one involved in galamsey will be spared, no matter their position or political colours.” He said.
Commenting on the fate of Ghanaian students in China with respect to the outbreak of corona virus, Akufo-Addo stated that the NPP government has not ruled out the option of repatriating Ghanaian students from Wuhan due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and that if it becomes necessary, these students will be evacuated.
