The Teshie-Nungua Area of The Church of Pentecost has launched its environmental care campaign with a call on Christians to keep their surroundings clean.
The launch was done by the Area Head, Apostle Dr. Alfred Koduah, at the Agnes Boahemaa Gyimah Temple, Nungua, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
Speaking at the event with Scripture reference from Deuteronomy 23:13, Apostle Dr. Koduah charged Christians to desist from throwing rubbish into open gutters, and littering the environment with non-biodegradable material.
He urged them not to defecate into black polythene bags and throw them into drains. He further asked Christians not to build along water courses. “The Malarias, Choleras, Diarrheas and the other communicable diseases are as a result of our lack of proper care of the environment.
“Teshie-Nungua Area will be a haven to live if we all collectively put our hands on deck to make our environment clean and tidy,” he said, adding, “The Lord has given us this earth to take care of, and it is your responsibility to make sure the environment is kept clean and nice.”
Delivering the sermon at the programme, Pastor Emmanuel Ayisi Mensah of Teshie Water Works District, who doubles as the Area Coordinator for the Environmental Care Campaign, encouraged Christians to keep the environment for the purpose God created it, saying, “God in His wisdom and knowledge has created the earth and everything in it for mankind’s benefits, hence proper care should be given to all that He created.”
Buttressing his message with Scriptures from Genesis 1:1-4, 26-27; 2: 8, 15, Pastor Ayisi Mensah said the light of the world, Jesus Christ has entrusted man to look after His creation and protect it. He encouraged Christians to desist from logging and also polluting the environment, reiterating that, “When the last tree dies the last man dies.”
The launch brought together the chiefs and people of the Nungua Traditional Area.
In an address read on his behalf, the Paramount Chief of the Nungua Traditional Area, Nii Odaifio Welentsi III, pledged his allegiance to the environmental care campaign and lauded the leadership of The Church of Pentecost for the initiative.
He promised to avail himself for the clean-up exercises to be carried out by the Church in the area, saying, “Anytime you embark on the tree planting and clean-up exercise let me be in the known.”
