Tarkwa- Nsuta: Residents demonstrate over 'killer' road

Residents of Tarkwa-Nsuta in the Tarkwa Nsueam municipality of the Western Region  on Friday hit the streets to protest against the rampant pedestrian knockdowns in the area by heavy duty trucks.

The angry residents from Tamso, Hill Top and Nsuta Junction  blocked the Tarkwa -Takoradi road leaving vehicles stranded at both ends of the road.

Their action was triggered by the killing of a man believed to be in his 30s by a manganese truck Thursday evening.

According to the residents, drivers of the heavy duty trucks have refused to comply with the road safety regulations resulting in the killing of people in the area.

For him, if no authority will sanction the speeding truck drivers then as residents they “will continue to block the road”.

The Police in the area moved in to disperse the crowd for traffic to flow.
