Takoradi: Ahantahene’s 50th enstoolment anniversary launched

The 50th Anniversary to mark the enstoolment of the overlord of Ahanta, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XV has been launched at Busua, the traditional capital of Ahanta.

The anniversary is to commemorate Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XV’s possession on the stool since 1969.

By this fest, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XV is said to be the second longest reigning monarch in Ghana.


The Anniversary is being organised under the theme; 50 Years of Peaceful Leadership and the Ahantaman Renaissance.

The chain of programmes to commemorate the 50th anniversary from 1st October 2019 to 17th November 2019 would commence with float, cycling, marathon and regatta, Intellectual activities, schools sports festival and a youth conference.

Others include, a health day, a beauty pageant dubbed “Miss Ahanta”, street jams, grand durbar which would be held in Takoradi, the commercial capital of Western Region and the largest capital city in Ahanta, and a thanksgiving service amongst others.


Addressing a gathering of chiefs and elders, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe indicated that, the celebration was not only for fun but it should be an opportunity for him as well as his chiefs to assess their performances for the past 50 years and the way forward.

He said it was also an opportunity for all traditional leaders to assess their achievements and their contributions in the lives of their people in terms of education, job creation, infrastructural development and others.

Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe challenged all traditional leaders to be agents of change in order to bring reverence to chieftaincy in Ahantaman and Ghana at large.

He also used the occasion to invite all persons from Ahanta in the diaspora to come home and support Ahantaman to make the Anniversary a memorable one.

He further advised queen mothers to also play their ceremonial roles as expected of them.

Speaking on behalf of the Western Regional Minister, The Municipal Chief Executive of Ahanta West, Hon. Mrs Henrietta Mary Eyeson charged Ahanta chiefs to desist from selling lands cheaply to investors because lands in future will sell at a very high price.

On behalf of the planning committee for the celebration of Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe’s 50th Anniversary, Chairman of the Committee, Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley promised the committee will achieve the target set for them in ensuring a successful occasion.

Geographical coverage of Ahanta
The Ahanta area covers the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Effia- Kwesimnintsim and the Ahanta West Municipal Assemblies, making it a very important geographical area in the Western Region as it plays host to the Region’s capital and also the Cape Three Points enclave where a huge part of the country’s oil and gas activities is currently situated.
