System disturbances cause of current power fluctuations – PURC

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has attributed the recent power outages in the country to some System disturbances at the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo).

There have frequent power outages in some parts of Accra over the past few days. The new electricity suppliers, Power Distribution Services Ghana (PDS) has since given notices to  areas which have been affected  by these system disturbances.

The Public Relations Officer for The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Bawa Mounkaila, who spoke to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive explained that some major lines which distributes power to PDS were lost hence the hitches.

He explained that there are cables and conductors which are laid to facilitate the distribution of electricity. He added that systems trips based on unknown reasons. According to him, these disturbances are unplanned.

He stated that GRIDCo has been asked to provide a comprehensive report on the issue for analysis and investigations to commence.

He, however, pleaded with Ghanaians not to blame PDS since the current fluctuations go beyond distribution.

“I will plead with Ghanaians to be patient with PDS who are only distributors and for that matter I would entreat customers to be patient and let us get to the bottom of this issue and know where the issue is coming from,” he said.
