“SWAT members wear mask to prevent mosquitoes” – Commander

Commander in charge of National Security SWAT team, DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu, says the National Security SWAT team wear masks to prevent mosquitoes.

A commission of Enquiry was instituted to investigate the violence which occurred during the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency on January 31, 2019.

The four-member commission has Mr Justice Emile Short as Chairman, with Professor Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu and Mr Patrick K. Acheampong as members.

The Commander in charge of National Security SWAT team, DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu, appeared before the commission Monday, February 18th 2019 to answer questions.

In response to why the SWAT team were masked during the Ayawaso west Wuogon, Commander in charge of National Security SWAT team, DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu stated that they wear the masks to prevent mosquitoes from biting them.

“My lord, sometimes we wear those masks because of mosquito bites to prevent mosquitoes from biting our ears and faces”, he said.
Some civilians including a Member of Parliament (MP) Sam George were attacked during the by-election at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Sam George was slapped by some national security operatives said to be SWAT team members. 

The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery; National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah and Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, Jean Mensah, EC chair have appeared before the commission to give accounts of what happened during the by-election.
