“Stop shielding Ayawaso West Wuogon offenders” – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

 
Former President John Dramani Mahama has asked the President of the Republic of Ghana to stop shielding the perpetrators of the violence at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
The flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who made this statement while delivering his New Year Message to Ghanaians asked the President to allow the offenders face the appropriate sanctions.
The Ayawaso West by-election took place on 31 January 2019 after the death of the incumbent MP Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko on 21st November 2018.
Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party was elected with 69% of the vote.
Violence erupted in the area of the La-Bawaleshie polling station two hours after the election had started, though there was no death recorded there where casualties..
He said, it is the responsibility of President Nana Addo to secure the safety of all citizens and to resist temptation to allow the use of violence to harm and intimidate innocent civilians as we observed last year during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election
“President Nana Akufo-Addo has a responsibility to secure the safety of all citizens and must resist the temptation to allow the use of violence to harm and intimidate innocent civilians as we observed last year during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election”.
“As a first step, I suggest he stops shielding the perpetrators of the violence at Ayawaso West Wuogon. He must have them face the appropriate sanctions” Mr. Mahama added.
