Stop 'bussing people' to registration centres – EC tells political parties

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has cautioned political parties to stop busing people registration centers.
According to the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Bosman Asare, persons resident in the electoral areas are allowed to register at the registration centers in the area.
The caution comes on the back of recent allegations by both NDC and NPP accusing each other of busing people from different constituencies to some registration centers.
The commission again warned party agents who collect voter ID cards from registrants to also desist from the act since it violates the electoral laws.
On the suit filed by the NDC against the Commission on the registration of SHS students, the EC denied knowledge of any suit like that.
4,445,346 Ghanaians have registered so far in the ongoing voters registration exercise across the country.
At a press briefing, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Bosman Eric Asare said the numbers represented 30 percent of their projected number of registrants across the country. With regard to the number of challenged cases, he said Greater Accra had a lot of registrants being challenged by polling agents.
He added that the EC is expectant of more than 10 million registrations in the next four weeks.
