Dr. Emmanuel Osei Asiamah, a governance expert, says Ghanaians are expecting the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to speak holistically on the state of Ghana’s security system.
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is expected to present the state of the Nation’s address on the floor of Parliament tomorrow Thursday, February 20, 2020.
The address which entails the current state of the nation is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.
Sharing his thoughts on the general overview and expectations of the 2020 state of The Nation’s address on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with Ekourba Gyasi, Dr. Emmanuel Osei Asiamah asked the President to desist from using the opportunity as a manifesto presentation and address key issues affecting the state.
Dr. Emmanuel Osei Asiamah cited the Kidnap incident in Takoradi where 15-year old Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21, and Ruth Love Quayson went missing in August of 2018 which  triggered the #BringBackOurTaadiGirls  campaign on Social media.
Suspect Nigerian Sam Udoetuk Wills who was re-arrested after breaking out of police custody in connection with these girls, was handed a 36-months jail term for breaking out of cell.
A Sekondi Magistrate Court in the Western Region on February 5th 2020 charged the suspects in with murder.
He also cited the popular Western Togoland secessionist group who declared parts of Ghana as independent ‘Western Togoland State’.
The leader of the group, 80-year old Charles Komi Kudzordzi, popularly known as Papavi Hobedetor, made the independence declaration at a public gathering in Ho on Saturday, November 16.
According to the governance expert, these and other security related issues put the country at risk and need to be addressed.
Dr. Emmanuel Osei Asiamah, however, added that the economy, education, health among others are also important aspects that people will want to hear about.
“For instance, people will like to know and get the true understanding as in the state of Ghana’s education system, whether the double track will continue etc. People will also like to know Ghana’s readiness on the global corona Virus epidemic,” he added.
