Shooting Incident: I'm not aware people were injured-Hawa Koomson

The Minister of Fisheries Designate and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya Constituency, Hawa Koomson says she is not aware properties were damaged after shooting into the air during the voters’ registration exercise ahead of the 2020 elections.

She also said she was not aware some of the people in her constituency got injured by her gunshot, which she claims was for self-defense.

Hawa Koomson fired shots at the Step -to- Christ polling center in her constituency during the voters’ registration exercise in 2020.

This was after an altercation between her and some persons at the polling centre.

After firing the shots, some residents were injured.

But speaking at her vetting at parliament, she said, “I am not aware. The case is under investigation and I don’t have any reports in my hand.”

Meanwhile, when asked if she followed up on the people who got injured and the residents’ whose’ shops were damaged, she said, “I read about the stories but I never heard about people being injured and blood flowing hear and there, I never heard about that.”

The MP added that,”I want to create this impression that I gave a warning shot in the air, it was not directed at anybody on that day.”

She again stressed that,”I mentioned that the incident occurred outside the polling centre. The polling centre was in the compound in a house and the incident happened outside of the compound so I did not see whatever happened in the compound.”

Meanwhile, she admitted she did not personally find out if the stories she read were true, adding that,” To the best of my knowledge nobody was injured that day. It never came to my notice that day.”

However, she apologised for firing the shots.
