Sewua murder: Police asked to beef-up presence

Perpertual Ofori Ampofo, President for the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwife Association (GRNMA), has called on the government to beef-up the presence of Police in Sewua.
Ruth Arhin, 37, who was a mother of three was found dead few meters from her house after she failed to return home after close of work on Monday, February 3.
Two suspects have reportedly been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Ruth Arhin Sewua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.
A phone found at the scene of the crime was traced to the first suspect arrested in connection to the murder. Ruth Arhin was buried over the weekend in Sewua in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Perpertual Ofori Ampofo, President for the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwife Association (GRNMA), expressed the association’s profound gratitude to the Ghana Police Service for the work it has done so far.
Perpertual Ofori Ampofo, however, called on the Police to beef-up security in the area, citing that nurses and midwives are currently living in fear following the murder of Ruth Arhin.
She also called on government to expedite investigations into the matter adding that nurses and midwives living in Sewua and its environs are currently living in fear over the murder.
“We know very well that the Police is working assiduously and we applaud them for that. The Police have informed us that they have a suspect and there are leads as well. We  want the Police to work professionally to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to book… It’s sad that a health worker helping a community with all her heart can be killed by the same people she is trying to help, it’s sad”, she said.
According to  Perpertual Ofori Ampofo, the service will not hesitate to withdraw its services to demand justice for the family of Ruth Arhin if they sense anything fishy in the investigation process.
She also called on the government to consider adding security precautions in the conditions of Service of Nurses and Midwives.
Meanwhile, Husband of the deceased, Kojo Arhin, suspects contract killing.
He explained that although petty theft is rampant in the area, they have never been attacked by armed robbers ever since they moved into their house.
“We’ve lived in the area for over 6 years and we have never been attacked by armed men in the area. I doubt my wife’s death was as a result of robbery, I strongly suspect contract killing. On the morning of her death she told me she was going to the bank so initially I thought she was followed and killed, but I strongly believe that is not the case,” he said.
