Retract and correct erroneous impression about us-EC to Classfmonline, Ghanaweb

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has registered displeasure in a news story by Classfmonline and also published by Ghanaweb on Friday, 10th January 2020, perceiving the publication as an attempt to malign the reputation and integrity of the Commission.
According to the EC, the publication with caption, “The public can’t dictate to us, we’ll work our plan for a credible poll-EC”, seeks to create the impression that the commission does not seek other views or opinions when taking critical decisions.
Meanwhile, the EC stated that despite the guarantee of its independence as enshrined in article 46 of the 1992 constitution, it does have consultations with stakeholders which include political parties, civil society organisations, media, and others in its quest to bring democracy to the doorstep all Ghanaians.
“The commission will however not compromise its stance on matters that are not in the interest of the nation and in clear contravention of the principles of electoral justice to the detriment of our electoral process and democracy,” the EC stated.
The EC therefore called on the two portals to withdraw the story immediately and correct the erroneous impression created about the commission.
“On this note, we call on the publisher of this article to retract and correct this erroneous impression regarding the commission’s justification of a new voter management system and a voters’ register,” the EC added.
Below is a statement by the EC:
