Pupils study in ‘hencoop under trees’ at Ada (photos)

Pupils of the the Terhe D/A Basic School pathetically conduct classes in the open, leaving them at the mercy of the weather.

Atinka News team was shocked to witness classes 4, 5 and 6 learning under neem trees with enclosed structures made of fencing sticks which only befit a hencoop status. Classes 2 and 3 also learn in similar structures with a couple of iron sheet over them.

The headmaster of the school, Raymond Ayitevi said since its inception 36 years ago, the Terhe D/A Basic School presently has only three classrooms as the rest of the classes study in the open, leaving them in the vagaries of the weather. The situation, he noted is adversely affecting academic works since they have to close the children at a drizzle.

Mr. Ayitevi took consolation in an ongoing classroom project block which the contractor had abandoned due to skirmishes that ensued in the community over two weeks ago. He appealed to the assembly to impress on the contractor to return to site and finish the project on schedule.

Responding to the concern, the Ada West District Chief Executive, Adzoteye Lawer Akrofi said the existing three classroom block was his brainchild during his era as the Presiding Member for the then Dangme East District.

Mr. Akrofi who promised to bring the contractor back to site immediately stated that the new classroom block will be ready before next academic year begins.
