Poliomyelitis has been detected in three Regions across the country, the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has disclosed.
The regions are Greater Accra, Upper East and the North East Region.
According to the GHS, it is embarking on many measures including educating the public on poliomyelitis in this affected regions to help eliminate polio from Ghana.
For more than a decade, Ghana has been polio-free until last July and August this year when it was recorded at Agbogloshie, Kyereponi and Tamale.
Speaking at the launch of polio vaccination campaign at Abgogloshie in Odododiodio Constituency in Greater Accra region, the Director General of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Nsiah Asare said the polio vaccination will start in Greater Accra region from today till 14 September 2019.
He said the exercise is free of charge and the vaccine is not contaminated with any disease but will help prevent children from being affected.
Dr. Nsiah Asare said children below five (5) years are the targeted one for this exercise polio vaccination exercise.
