Opeikuma residents cry for compensation after demolition exercise

Some community members at Opeikuma, a suburb of  Kasoa in the Central Region are fuming over a demolition exercise embarked by the Awutu Senya East Municipal without compensation.
They described the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Michael Essuman Mensah and the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Hawa Koomson as being insensitive.
According to them, there was no prior notice  before the exercise.

They said the exercise took effect after a short notice. Some affected residents are stranded with their belongings left in the open at the mercy of the weather.
Although the MP announced a few weeks ago of a massive demolition exercise to hit the municipality to pave way for the construction of roads, it appears the affected individuals were not in the known.
Opeikuma is an old village now developing into a town, with buildings scattered unplanned.
In a recent report by Atinka News, shop owners at the Okrudu stretch disclosed no information was relayed to them, a situation residents at Opeikuma are experiencing. The demolition also affected the Palace of the chief.
A resident yet to be affected mentioned, that the MP assured that plans were being made to address the issue when she visited the area a few days to the exercise
However, the resident said during the MP’s return visit, the Municipal Engineer disregarded their plight, ordering them to vacate the premises.
Chief of the area, Nana Opei Mensah II, said in as much as the road is of the essence to the community, affected persons should be compensated, especially when enough information was not given.
