Director of Communications for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kakra Essamuah, says the embattled Chairman of the party, Ofosu Ampofo will not honour the invitation by the Criminal Investigative department (CID) of the Ghana Police.
According to him, Chairman Ofosu Ampofo has no business assisting the Police in investigations in relation to recent fire outbreaks.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has invited the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to assist in investigations into some recent kidnappings and fire outbreaks.
A letter signed by the Director General of the CID, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, said Mr Ofosu Ampofo had been mentioned by some suspects as being “part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country.”
This invitation is in line with a leaked audio recording allegedly exposed some intents by NDC chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo against the Chairman of Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Antwi and others.
In the said tape, Ofosu Ampofo promised to endorse verbal attacks on the respected clergyman amidst kidnap threats.
The invitation letter from the Ghana Police stated that persons picked up for interrogation and investigation concerning the recent fire outbreaks and kidnaps in the country have mentioned Ofosu Ampofo as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country.
Speaking to Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka AM Drive Thursday, Director of Communication for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kakra Essamuah, said invitations can be turned down hence NDC chairman, Ofosu Ampofo will not honour any invitation.
Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has added his voice to the invitation, while addressing party faithfuls in Jamestown in Accra, he mentioned that that no amount of harassment of NDC’s Ofosu Ampofo will save the NPP from defeat.
“Indeed, it is a sign of desperation that the Chief Executive of our party, the Chairman of our party is constantly being harassed by the Police Authority,” he added.
The NDC Chairman alongside a Deputy National Communication Director of the party, Mr Kweku Boahen are facing charges of conspiracy to cause harm and assault against a public officer.
