Ofosu-Ampofo swerves Party to meet CID?

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has defied the counsel of the party’s Council of Elders to honour the invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over recent allegations of kidnapping and arson.

The party’s Council of Elders and some party executives had advised Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo not to honour the invitation, describing it as “baseless” and an act of “victimization”.

They dared the CID to arrest Mr Ofosu-Ampofo.

His legal team, in a response to the invitation, also reiterated the position of the party and argued the invitation from the CID is prejudicial to a case he is already standing trial for. In the said response, his legal team stated that he could not honour the CID’s invitation.

It, however, emerged late Thursday evening that Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo had arranged with the CID to have the meeting Friday dawn to avoid the spectacle that usually characterises pro-party meetings.

Ofosu Ampofo to meet CID Friday dawn on ‘lowkey’

It turned out the Friday dawn arrangement did not hold but was rather moved to mid-morning, during which time inside sources confirmed a private meeting between the CID and Mr. Ampofo was held.

A crack team of lawyers including former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, and her deputy, then, Dr. Dominic Ayine, as well as Abraham Amaliba were later spotted at the CID headquarters.

Our sources also reveal that the NDC chairman is expected to formally give his statement on the matter as that reportedly was the consensus reached by the two parties.
