Obitiyie: Pupils study under tree, write on bare floor (video)

Pupils of Obitiyie Primary School in the Nkwanta North District of the  Volta Region, have  their lessons under trees.

A visit to the school by Atinka News last Wednesday revealed that the primary school pupils have their lessons under trees while those in Kindergarten (KG1,2) sit on the bare floor to study.

The school now accommodates class three and four in one structure while class five and six are camped in one class under trees for lessons.

Mr. Ndibageen Kwasi Benjamin, Assistant head teacher of the school, said the situation was seriously affecting teaching and learning.
He said the situation was pathetic as the school lack textbooks, furniture, classrooms, teaching and learning materials.

“Teachers and pupils disappear when it is about to rain; this is really affecting teaching and learning in the school,” he said.

He said apart from lack of classrooms and furniture, the school has no playgrounds for  kids.

The head teacher, therefore, appealed to the education authorities and duty-bearers to complete the abandoned six -unit classroom project by GETFund .

Some of the frustrated pupils called for support from philanthropists and government agencies.

Meanwhile, two six-unit classroom blocks awarded for construction in 2015 by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) have stalled due to lack of funding. The two structures have reached the roofing level.
