NPP's rent allowance policy not feasible- Opare Addo

The National Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has asked Ghanaians to be vigilant and not allow the Akufo-Addo led administration throw dust into their eyes.

ThE statement by the NDC youth organizer comes after the former Communication Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP),  Nana Akomea, at a press conference said the next NPP administration will provide rent allowance.

He said government will bear the cost directly and make advanced payments to landlords and take monthly payments from the youth.

“Housing is a major problem facing the youth in Ghana and one can’t even find affordable accommodation. There’s about 2 million deficit in housing and rent is crippling the youth with rent advance being one problem we face more. Some landlord’s take three (3) years rent advance and many people end up taking loans from the workplace and so on. The NPP will relieve the young people of the rent advance system plans to set up the National Rental Assistance Scheme in the next four (4) years”, Nana Akomea said.

Reacting to the press conference on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, the National Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Opare Addo, said the NPP is incapable of initiating the promise.

He argued that the NPP has been in power the last four years and that if they had any good rent policy for the youth,  they would have implemented it long ago.

According to Opare Addo, a Ghanaian youth who has been equipped with the necessary skills to work and make money can pay his or her own rent.

” If a naked man promises you a cloth, listen to his name. If a party or festival will be entertaining, it starts from the morning. This should tell you that if the NPP had in mind to support the youth with respect to rent, then it would have implemented it long ago, not when the country has less than 42 days to elect a new leader. In the first place, the policy itself is not feasible. What young people in this country are demanding for, are Jobs. If we have good jobs, we can pay our own rent”, he explained.
