NPP, NDC in blame game over Yagaba-Kubori clash

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are blaming each other over Sunday’s clash in the Yagaba-Kubori constituency in the Upper East Region.

Some supporters of the NDC and NPP clashed in Yagaba in the North East Region, leaving scores of them injured.

The violence erupted after NPP supporters allegedly shot into the vehicle of incumbent MP, Amadu Tanko when he went to campaign in one of the communities in the constituency, an act which angered the NDC supporters who also stormed the residence of the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Mustapha Usif, to vandalise his property.

Speaking to the issue on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi,  North East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Lawyer Sulley Sambian said the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Ibrahim Rauf Tanko, is  a violent person who is noted for attacking people.

He said Rauf Tanko, who was on a campaign tour in the Yagaba/Kubori constituency, was embarrassed with the number of people who failed to come out to listen to him which triggered the series of attacks leaving  supporters  of the NPP injured.

He said Mr Tanko and his boys attacked the only FM station in Yagaba, destroying properties of the station in the process.

He expressed disappointment in the NDC’s candidate for stooping so low to encourage party supporters to unleash violence of this magnitude and scale on his political opponents.

Reacting to the accusations on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with Ekourba Gyasi, Member of Parliament for Yabara- Kuburi, Ibrahim Abril Rauf Tanko- MP, said the NPP is only spewing lies aimed at tarnishing the image of the NDC in Upper East.

According to him, the NPP started stoning him when his team tried campaigning in the hometown of the NPP’s Presidential candidate and shot at his car.

He added that, but for the timely intervention of his team, he would have been hurt.

He asked the general public not to listen to the lies of the NPP.
