NPP, NDC in blame game over Jamestown clash

The two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are at each other’s throat over who started the clash in Jamestown.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) peace walk turned turned violent in Jamestown in the Odododiodio constituency Sunday morning.

The peace walk, which was supposed to be peaceful saw supporters of the two main parties throwing bottles and stones at each other.

Both NPP and NDC have written their statements at the Police Station, which each of them blaming the other for starting the violence.

A  number of persons reportedly suffered various degrees of injuries.

Speaking in an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Ekourba Gyasi,  Special assistant to the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo constituency,  Sammy Larye explained that the supporters of the NPP attacked that of NDC in what began as a peaceful walk.

Sammy Laryea explained that the NPP hoodlums attacked and tried to prevent the NDC supporters from embarking on the walk by throwing stones and bottles at them.

“Anytime people wear NDC paraphernalia and they are in the constituency, NPP guys will go and attack them. In fact, when NDC is organizing an event, they will send their men to go and attack them. Recently you heard of the attack on the MP who was at the police station to seek bail for one of our boys who was arrested for not committing any crime. We started our walk peacefully because they had had their’s the day before and so we did not anticipate any chaos. But immediately we got to the high street the NPP started throwing bottles and hurling insults at us.” he narrated.

But the NPP constituency Chairman for Odododiodio, Raymond Tetteh, who also spoke to Ekourba Gyasi on the AM Drive debunked allegations that the NPP attacked the NDC.

He noted hat the NDC is noted for apportioning blame whenever they are at fault instead of accepting that they are at fault.

“ We all know that they had never been peace in the Odododiodio constituency ever since the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Party was chosen. We did not attack anyone, we were still mourning our loss and had no intension of causing chaos in Odododiodio constituency. The NDC rather started throwing bottles when their team got to a place in the constituency which is NPP dominated”, he explained.
