The National Council for Curriculum & Assessment (NaCCA), has clarified speculations and misrepresentations about the ongoing High School Reforms which circulated on social media ahead of the reopening of schools.
According to NaCCA, following the successful conduct of regional training workshops on the Common Core Programme (CCP) Curriculum, all is set for the roll-out of the CCP in JHS 1 classes across the country in the new academic year.
NaCCA stated that in SHS 1, learners will continue to offer the same set of subjects, adding that after completing SHS 1, learners can either branch into academic or career pathways.
“In the next phase of the Curriculum and Assessment Review, NaCCA in conjunction with other key stakeholders will review the curriculum for SHS 2 and 3 as well as the associated assessment provisions.
The general public is thus entreated to disregard the false reportage being circulated about the CCP,” NaCCA stated.

CLARIFICATION ON THE ONGOING HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM REFORMS
The attention of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has been drawn to various publications, currently circulating on social media, which seek to give misrepresentations about the ongoing High School Reforms.
Following the successful conduct of regional training workshops on the Common Core Programme (CCP) Curriculum, all is set for the roll-out of the CCP in JHS 1 classes across the country in the new academic year.
The Common Core Programme consists of nine (9) learning areas that have been carefully designed for learners from JHS 1 to SHS 1 in order to prepare them adequately for post-secondary education, the world of work or both. Some of the key features of the CCP are as follows:
• Introduction of project work, community service and engagement to link classroom learning to real life.
• Introduction of technical and vocational courses such as Career Technology, Creative Arts and Design for all learners from JHS 1 to SHS 1 in order to equip them with the relevant technical and vocational skills.
• Introduction of computer software programming and internet safety to promote lifelong learning.
• Emphasis on values such as respect, diversity, equity, commitment to excellence, truth and integrity to promote patriotism.
• Assessment of knowledge, skills, core competencies, attitudes and values with emphasis on what learners can do.
Notably, learners will continue to write examinations at the end of JHS 3 for placement into Senior High Schools.
In SHS 1, learners will continue to offer the same set of subjects. After completing SHS 1, learners can either branch into academic or career pathways.
In the next phase of the Curriculum and Assessment Review, NaCCA in conjunction with other key stakeholders will review the curriculum for SHS 2 and 3 as well as the associated assessment provisions.
The general public is thus entreated to disregard the false reportage being circulated about the CCP.
