MTN donates to support the celebration of Kundum festival 

 

The Mobile Telecommunication Network- Ghana (MTN-Ghana) as part of efforts to promote customs and traditions in the country has presented a cash of GHC2000, recharge cards worth 500 Ghana cedis, MTN branded T-shirt and other souvenirs to the planning committee of Lower Dixcove Kundum Festival.

The festival begins Saturday August 18 at Lower Dixcove in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

The Senior Manager of MTN South East, Simon Amoh during the donation told Atinkaonline that the presentation was in line with the company's corporate social responsibility.

He said MTN values Ghana’s customs and traditions hence the donation to project the Ghanaian culture.

Mr. Amoh indicated that chiefs are key stakeholders within the eco-system, and festivals are important to the development of a country particularly Ghana.

The Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, on his part expressed profound appreciation to MTN-Ghana for the kind gesture.

He also thanked the company for improving the MTN network in the area and the surrounding communities since a new cell site was mounted in the area.

Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX stressed that festivals are very important in Ghana because it brings development, unity and preaches peace to the people.

Kundum festival is celebrated by the people of Ahanta and Nzema and it is marked over a four-week period to signify victory over hunger.

It is marked between August and September which is usually the bumper harvest season for food.

The people who participate in the celebration of the Kundum festival wear distinctive dress, footwear and sometimes masks.

The festival begins with musicians taking the drums to the five different shrines on the outskirts of town to pour libation and other sacrifices.
