Mills' GH¢ 2 m cash was used for research – Obour

President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, better known as Obour, has denied accusations that the union could not account for some GH¢ 2 million allocated to it.

The Chairman of the Public Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr. Steve Manteaw accused MUSIGA of failing to present a report on a research it conducted on the  GH¢ 2 million fund the Mills’ administration allocated to them in 2012.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Bice Osei Kuffour explained that the GH¢ 2 million was used to conduct a comprehensive research into the Ghana Music industry.

According to him, prior to the research, the Union did not have a complete data of the country’s music industry. He added that aside  the research revealing an 8% contribution by MUSIGA to the country’s GDP, it also gave the union a comprehensive data on people actively involved in the Music industry.

Bice Osei Kuffour explained that foreign investors who are interested in supporting the music industry usually request for the data which was previously not available.

“The document obtained after the research is a very useful document and if PIAC had written to the union and demanded evidence, I am sure their reportage would have been different,” he added.

He entreated all to visit MUSIGA offices as well as the Union’s website for copies of the research.
