Market behind KNUST catches fire

Reports reaching Atinkaonline.com is that a market behind the KNUST caught fire Sunday dawn.

According to reports, exactly 01:31 am on Sunday, 10th January, 2021, the mini market consisting of 10 metal containers measuring about 4×5 feet behind the Republic Hall caught fire.

The school authorities explained that the market is owned and operated by some private individuals.

The school indicated that a KNUST fire tender was immediately dispatched to manage the incident.

“At 01:37 am, the tender arrived at the fire scene and managed to bring the fire under control at exactly 02:55 am. While the fire was being controlled, all students in the Hall close to the fire scene were evacuated to safety,” KNUST stated.

Meanwhile, it has denied rumours that the Republic Hall was burnt, adding that no student or items were affected.

“Management wishes to place on record that the Republic Hall was not affected by the fire. Again, Management wants to state that No student or item belonging to any student was affected by the fire ” the school stated.

Campus, KNUST stated is calm, adding that all students are going about the routine activities peacefully.

“We wish to entreat the general public to disregard the misinformation on social media that the Republic Hall was burnt and 17-persons including a porter lost their lives,” KNUST added.
