Mahama: NDC will win 2020 elections "with or without new register"

Leader and flagbearer of the largest Opposition party,  National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, says the party is capable of winning the 2020 general elections with or without the compilation of a new voters’ register.
According to him, the decision by the Electoral Commission and the ruling government to compile a new voters’ register using the Ghana card and passports as the only accepted particulars is to disenfranchise many Ghanaians from voting.
He said, even though the process may be made deliberately slow and painful, he urged Ghanaians to endure so far as it will enable them vote  out the incompetent NPP government.
Mr. Mahama made  the comments during a press briefing on Thursday, 25th June 2020 at the party’s headquarters in response to the ruling by the Supreme Court on the compilation of a new voters register.
He asked Ghanaians who are eligible to register not let the several hours spent at the registration centers get them to surrender their right to vote.
“Those who have the Ghana card and passport please make use of them and register and those who get the opportunity to register, I implore you to assist your sisters, your brothers and compatriots by guaranteeing for them even if it takes more of your time.
“Please, see this as a civic duty and your contribution to the effort to preserve the right to vote,” Mr Mahama said.
