The Acting Chairperson and Leader of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, has called on all members of the party to focus on building a vibrant and prosperous political party in all respects.

She also called on the members to unite and build the CPP in solidarity and ensure that the party wins in the parliamentary and presidential elections come 2020.

Hajia Ibrahim made the call at the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the CPP which was held at the Party’s Head Office on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019.

According to her, despite the truncation of the Party’s forward match to prosperity by opponents in 1966, the party is encouraged to look ahead at the bright prospects of the cause of the party and its members.

“In so doing, we are honouring the memory of the outstanding party members, exemplary party workers who so dearly championed the course of our party; this is the least we owe to the late Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the greatest African of the Millennium on the sacrifices he made on behalf of Ghana and our dear party,” she said.

“I am therefore issuing a clarion call to all of us to mobilise the entire CPP and in an even more confident advance towards the goal of building a vibrant and prosperous political party in all respects, and towards the goal of national rejuvenation. I offer the hands of brotherhood and sisterhood to all of you to join with me to build a strong CPP,” Hajia Ibrahim said.

At the ceremony, a cake was cut to commemorate the celebration, while the Convention Newspaper was relaunched.

Present at the event were CPP party Executives and members, representatives of the NDC, the NPP, the PPP and the other smaller political parties who shared their solidarity messages as the anniversary was marked.

For his part, the Chairman of the Council of Elders for CPP and Former MP for Asamankese, Mr Felix Amoah who pondered on the things that brought down the party pointed lack of respect, frictions within the ranks of the party leadership, unhealthy relationships between the chairman and their general secretaries, pain and dismay.

He realized that discipline, comradeship and solidarity which used to be the hallmark of the party were currently nothing to write home about adding that everything seemed to be doing their own things in the party and they all either mindfully or unmindfully continue to delude themselves into believing that there is still victory for the CPP.

“The victory that all of us for the past 23 years have been waiting for will only come on the hills of hard work, discipline, effective organization, comradeship, solidarity, inclusiveness, mutual respect and selfless devotion, without which pillars the party will win an election only in a world that does not exists. Let us work assiduously to overcome the seemingly intractable problems and divisions within our party,” he said.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketsia also urged the CPP, which was a progressive political party to unite amongst themselves while they throw their weight behind the NDC in order to win the 2020 elections.

“Somethings never stops amusing me, you always talk about unity and yet you have decided to dis-unite yourselves. If you walk your talk there will be unity. NDC is also a progressive party so let’s come together and build a progressive and a united party. Let us try and find the reasons for the fall of the CPP and resolve them, otherwise if we remain divided we will be conquered,” he said.
