Let’s do away with character assassination – Obiri Boahen advises politicians

Deputy New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen, has advised political parties to avoid character assassination and politics of insults in their discourse.

Nana Obiri Boahen who delivered a solidarity message on behalf of NPP at the 9th Annual Delegate’s Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Fantasy Dome of the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra, asked political parties to tackle political issues devoid of character assassination.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Nana Obiri Boahen, noted that his message went well with Ghanaians due to the number of congratulatory messages that has been sent to his phone from both NPP and NDC party members.

“As leaders, we have to play our part well by demonstrating a high sense of maturity. It’s important that healthy politics is practiced in our country. It is obvious that the two leading political parties are NDC and NPP and so it’s important that we send this warm advice to our opponent,” he said.

Asked if he had refrained from being “hot headed” as described by Alban Bagbin in 2007, Mr Obiri Boahen stated that he was bubbling with youthful exuberant at that time and that he is old and he has evolved.

“Probably, I was hot headed eleven years ago, I have evolved and can be counted as one of the best politicians in Ghana. It is right that we teach our youth that character assassination in politics is not the norm”, he argued.
