"Lack of constituted board cause of chaos at Tamale Hospital"

Chairman for the Association of Health Service Administrators of Ghana (AHAG), Effah Yeboah, has attributed the chaos at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to the lack of a governing board at the facility.

A group of thugs believed to be members of the pro NPP vigilante group, Kandahar boys attacked and sacked the CEO and managers of the Tamale Teaching Hospital out of their offices, Monday 13th August.

The group drove out and locked up the office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr David Zaawumya Kolbila, first before proceeding to the officers of the managers. The group accused Dr Kolbilla of breaching procurement laws.

However,  Effah Yeboah, in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Thursday explained that if there had been a governing board at the facility, concerns of aggrieved persons would have been channeled to them which would have prevented this chaos.

He explained that if the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) hospital had a governing board, the board would have received the claims and conducted investigations .

“The Tamale Teaching Hospital is without a board which meant that CEO would be working without supervision because he is the number one person in the whole institution and so no in the institution is qualified to supervise him”, he stated.

Nevertheless, Effah Yeboah called on the staff at the TTH to reconsider their action to prevent loss of lives at the facility.

Speaking on the same issue, the Secretary for the Tamale Teaching Hospital branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Ibrahim Busagri, mentioned that Nurses and midwives at TTH will continue to strike until  their demands are met.

“We all heard that the Police had made some arrests and have released them but unfortunately, we are still not moved. We will not resume work until our demands are met,” he reiterated.
