Kotoko beat Coton Sport in Cameroon

 

The Porcupine Warriors continued their unbeaten run in the CAF Confederation Cup following their away victory over Coton Sport on Sunday afternoon.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko posted a 3-2 defeat on Cameronian side Coton Sport de Garoua in the first leg tie of the Confederation Cup at the Stade Militaire de Yaoundé.

The Ghana Premier League side dominated the first department of the match as they inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the homesters.

Winger Emmanuel Gyamfi opened the floodgate for the Porcupine Warriors with a fine strike on the 10th minute of the match.

Kotoko continued to piled pressure on the Cotonites with several attempts to extend the lead before the half-hour mark.

Burkina Faso international Songne Yacouba could have doubled the score for the visitors but his audacious strike was fisted out by the Coton Sport goalkeeper on the 22nd minute.

On the 31st minute of the game, Maxwell Baakoh registered his name on the score sheet as he made it 2-0 for Asante Kotoko.

Coton Sport gained possession as Maximilien Elimbi and Kamilou Daouda tormented the back line of Kotoko to reduce the deficit before recess.


 
Skipper Kamilou Daouda pulled one back for Coton Sport on the 39th minute after neatly converting a spot-kick awarded to them.

Back from recess, Coach Akonnor's charges continued to outplay the home side with brilliant passes and tormenting them with long range shots.

Abdul Fatawu Safiu restored the two-goal lead for the Kumasi-based club as he netted his second goal in the competition on the 50th minute.

Coton Sport managed to end the match in a five-goal thriller with a beautiful strike from Gueme Araina in the mid of the second department.

Coach Akonnor replaced Abdul Fatawu and Kwame Bonsu with Obed Owusu and Prince Acquah to keep clean sheet in the last twenty minutes of the game.

Yacouba could have extended their away victory with a late strike but he squandered most of the numerous chances supplied to him.

The return league encounter will be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi next weekend.

Winner of their playoff round will progress to the group stages of the CAF Confederation
