Kofi Asare Brako takes over Agyenkwa FM in Kumasi as General Manager  


Ghana’s celebrated broadcaster and a household name in sports on radio in Accra, Kofi Asare Brako otherwise known as Abatay has been transferred from Atinka FM, an Accra-based private radio station, also a subsidiary of Atinka Media Village to the media giant’s Kumasi-based Agyenkwa FM.

The award-winning sports show host who confirmed his exit from the Avenor-based media house to atinkaonline.com until his transfer was the General Manager of the media giant and the host of Atinka FM’s drive-time show, “Ofie Ne Fie”.

His exploits in the sports journalism industry catapulted Peace FM’s Peace Power Sports to win the Radio Sports Programme of The Year for three consecutive times in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

He later joined Adom FM also in Accra in April 2008 and later transferred to another sister station Asempa FM under the Multimedia Group where he hosted the morning show The Ultimate Sports Show and eventually lifting the tracker to become the number 1 morning show amongst the Multimedia platforms of Joy FM, Adom FM and Hitz FM in the capital.

Abatay’s transfer to Kumasi has been necessitated by the media giant’s decision to let him go and manage in revamping their Kumasi-based Agyenkwa FM as the new General Manager of that radio station.

The ace Sports Broadcaster joined Atinka Media Village from Multimedia Group Limited and had previously worked with another media giant Despite Group of Companies. It will be recalled that Kofi Asare Brako was one of the key people who were sent to Kumasi by the Despite Group to revamp their strategy when Hello FM was being established in 2004 hence very conversant with the Kumasi terrain.

As one of the reigning radio personalities in Ghana, Abatay, has expressed appreciation to his listeners for their unflinching support ever since he took over as the Head of Sports at Atinka FM in January 2015 and eventually rising to become the General Manager.

A product of the International Institute of Journalism, Berlin, Germany and the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Abatay brings to Agyenkwa FM a wealth of experience in the sports journalism industry for almost 20 years having worked with three of the top-most Akan-speaking radio stations in the nation’s capital; Peace FM, Adom FM and Atinka FM in that order, where he held the same position as Head of Sports, and eventually being awarded the Radio Sports Show Host Of The Year in 2015.

Kofi Asare Brako, who has been working with Atinka FM for over three and a half years now, told atinkaonline.com he believes consistency and experience have contributed to his remarkable achievement so far.

He revealed, “It has been a fulfilling but tortuous journey…but I thank God for how far He has brought me. Much as Accra people accepted me, I know Kumasi people too will accept me, because I have been there before and they know me.”

He expressed his appreciation to his boss, Mr Samuel Amo Tobin, Executive Chairman of Tobinco Group of Companies, the mother company that owns Atinka FM in Accra, Agyenkwa FM in Kumasi, Ahotor FM in Sekondi Takoradi and Atinka TV in Accra, for the confidence reposed in him and also to the entire staff at Atinka Media Village for their love and support.

A world traveler as he is, his exploits in the sports journalism industry has taken him to several countries such as the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and on the continent of Africa, several of them such as Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Cote D’Ivoire, Sudan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Angola, Rwanda, Madagascar, Mozambique, Libya, Mali, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Lesotho, Togo, Benin and others covering matches and tournaments involving the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars of Ghana and the other national teams. 

He is also on record to have covered most of the international matches involving the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak with his unique style of sports commentary.
