Kofi Annan was ‘one of a kind; an embodiment of the UN’ – UN Secretary General

 

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutterres, says the United Nations will immensely miss the late Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan.

Antonio Gutterres who made this statement while speaking at the final burial service for the late Kofi Annan at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) described the Nobel prize winner as a great leader, who is “one-of-a-kind”.

He noted that Kofi Annan was an exceptional global leader whose vision was to unite all and sundry towards a common goal.

For him, Kofi Annan was a courageous person who spoke truth to power and the same time subjected himself to intense self-scrutiny when the need be.

The Ghanaian diplomat and former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, died in Switzerland on august 18, 2018.

Kofi Annan served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006.

He is also the Founder and Chairman of the kofi Annan foundation, as well as Chairman of the Elders, an international organization founded by nelson Mandela.
