KNUST sets up committee to investigate fire outbreak

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,  KNUST, Dr. Danie Bekoe, says the University has instituted a committee to investigate the recent fire outbreak as well as other similar incidents to prevent future occurrences.

Over 10 shops in a  market behind the Republic Hall of the KNUST were razed by fire over the weekend.

The market serves the students in the Republic Hall as well as students of nearby halls in the University.

Updating the general public on the outbreak on Atinka AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,  KNUST, Dr. Danie Bekoe said although the KNUST fire service had launched its investigations, the University has instituted a committee to evaluate and bring appropriate recommendations to curb future occurrences.

“ The fire affected a market behind the KNUST Republic Hall razing over 10 container shops. The university has instituted a committee to evaluate and bring appropriate recommendations which will help the university to deal with such matters in the future. The committee will investigate not just this fire, but other similar unfortunate instances. We will ensure that some of these things will not recur in the future”, he added.

He refuted initial rumours that the fire affected the Republic Hall of the KNUST injuring over 17 students in the university.

He reiterated that no student was hurt as the fire only affected the market behind the hall.
