KNUST: Female students sanctioned for accommodating male colleagues after 10 pm

 

Authorities at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) have sanctioned some students of Unity Hall for keeping their companions of the opposite sex in their rooms during odd hours.

A letter signed by the Unity Hall Master, Dr. Emmanuel Gikunoo,  directed some six students (four females and two males) to bring their parents to sign an undertaken to be of good behavior throughout their stay in the hall.

According to the letter,  four female students of Unity Hall were accommodating a male student past 10:00 pm on September 7, 2018, in their room while two other males were also found in female rooms at dawn on 8th September 2018. The actions of the students violate the rules of the hall hence their punishment.

This issue has gone viral on social media with some Ghanaians condemning the University for treating the tertiary students as SHS students. They contend that tertiary students “are old enough to accommodate whoever in their rooms.”
